An 11-year-old girl is in critical condition at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland after being shot in the head by a stranger while seated in her father’s vehicle. The incident occurred around 12:40 pm on Monday at an apartment complex parking lot.
The shooter, identified as Ryan Hardy by police, indiscriminately fired shots, with one bullet penetrating the car and striking the girl in the head. The girl’s father, who remains unnamed for safety reasons, shared that her first post-incident words, asking why she couldn’t see, were heart-wrenching.
The family is devastated by the incident, with the father expressing profound grief and fear, stating, “My family is everything to me. I feel like my heart is being ripped out.” The suspect, Ryan Hardy, 23, is considered armed and dangerous, and authorities are urging the public to report any information on his whereabouts.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support the family, who now plans to permanently leave Antioch for safety concerns, leaving behind their home, jobs, and community. The fundraiser aims to cover relocation expenses, lost income, emergency living costs, and the girl’s extensive medical care and therapy needs.
The family, described as honest, humble, and hardworking, faces challenging circumstances and appreciates any assistance. Over $7,800 has been raised to date to aid the family in their recovery and relocation efforts. Donations can be made to the GoFundMe page for further support.
