A 12-year-old child was airlifted to the hospital after an incident at a picturesque location in Dartmoor over the weekend. The youngster plunged into the water at Spitchwick on Dartmoor, a well-known swimming area along the River Dart on Saturday. Authorities closed the road briefly to respond to the emergency and safely rescue the teenager.
The Devon Air Ambulance arrived at the scene approximately 15 minutes after the accident occurred around noon on Saturday, July 11. An eyewitness mentioned that the boy had a mishap while cliff jumping, according to Devon Live.
Witnesses commented on the swift emergency response, with various teams, including Dartmoor rangers, Devon and Cornwall Police, and paramedics, swiftly arriving to assist. The road closure lasted for an hour, but normalcy was restored shortly after.
Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team – Ashburton shared details of the incident on their Facebook page, stating that they were called to aid following a report of a child injured while diving at Spitchwick. Team members worked together to transport the 12-year-old on a stretcher to a Devon Air Ambulance Trust helicopter. Given the warm weather, the popular spot was bustling with activity.
Due to the emergency vehicles blocking the lane, team members managed traffic until the air ambulance departed. The rescue team extended well wishes for the child’s speedy recovery.
