A 12-year-old boy is in critical condition following a collision involving an electric scooter and a car.
The incident occurred on Earsdon Close, near West Denton Way in Newcastle, around 5 pm on Sunday. The boy was riding an electric scooter on a footpath south of West Denton Way when he tried to cross Earsdon Close and was hit by a red Volvo V40 car.
The boy suffered severe injuries and was rushed to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, where he remains in a life-threatening state. His family has been notified and is receiving support from specialized officers.
The driver of the Volvo, a 48-year-old man, stopped at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury due to careless driving. He has been released pending further investigation.
The incident led to a significant emergency response, involving multiple police vehicles, ambulance crews, and paramedics. The road was closed for several hours but reopened at 9:30 pm, as reported by Chronicle Live.
