A massive 150kg shark was caught from the depths of a harbor where a 12-year-old boy tragically died in a shark attack. The bull shark, equivalent in weight to a large piano, was captured off the coast of Clifton Gardens at the entrance of the Sydney harbor in Australia. This incident occurred shortly after the fatal mauling of Nico Antic on January 18, who jumped into the harbor from nearby rocks with friends.
Nico’s tragic death was part of a series of shark attacks in Sydney since the beginning of the year, with the shark being discovered closest to where the young boy was attacked. Fisherman Chris Allchin, part of the search team looking into the attack area, described his spontaneous decision to confront the shark using a harness and fishing rod. Allchin’s attempt to bait the shark required intervention from two friends to prevent him from being pulled into the water.
Nico, hailing from North Bondi, battled for his life for over a week before succumbing to his injuries at Sydney Children’s Hospital. Fondly remembered by his parents as a cheerful and athletic child, the community has extended support to the grieving family. In a statement, they expressed gratitude to the first responders and the medical teams for their efforts in caring for Nico and requested privacy during this challenging period.
Nico’s shark attack was part of a string of incidents along the New South Wales coast, including an attack at North Steyne Beach where a 27-year-old suffered severe leg injuries. Another incident involved a young surfer whose board was damaged in an attack further north along the coast.
