Sixteen individuals sustained injuries when a 17-year-old male initiated gunfire at a school in Turkey, as confirmed by authorities.
The incident occurred at Ahmet Koyuncu Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in the Siverek district of Sanliurfa on a Tuesday morning. Sanliurfa Governor Hasan Sıldak disclosed that the teenager, a former student of the school born in 2007, tragically ended his own life after the attack. Governor Sıldak reported, “We have 16 injured. The attacker is a former student of our school, born in 2007. The attacker committed suicide. We evacuated the school. The incident is being investigated from all angles.”
Upon receiving a tip-off, medical, police, and special operations teams promptly responded to the scene. A witness informed NTV, a TV channel, that the assailant entered the school premises armed and commenced shooting indiscriminately. The witness stated, “He first fired randomly in the grounds and then in the school,” further mentioning that the attacker held students hostage within the school.
The Turkey Interior Ministry issued a statement confirming the identification of the attacker. According to preliminary findings, 10 students, four teachers, one police officer, and one canteen worker sustained injuries during the assault and were transported to Siverek State Hospital for medical attention.
The ministry revealed that the teenager utilized a pump-action shotgun to carry out the attack before tragically taking his own life using the same weapon. Security forces have initiated an investigation into the incident.
