A young professional who enjoys traveling has shared her experience of embarking on a 3,000-mile journey to work, despite it being a job many would not prefer. Georgia Samuels, aged 31, has embraced her extensive commute over the South Atlantic Ocean every two weeks, leaving behind Perth, Australia, to start a new chapter in Bali as a health and safety adviser at a remote mine.

Having made the move in November, Georgia has fully embraced the two-week on, two-week off work schedule at Western Australia Mine. While her job may involve working in a dark underground mine, she expresses contentment with her decision to relocate to Bali, emphasizing that she has no regrets six months into the experience.

Georgia highlights unexpected benefits of her lengthy commute, noting the relaxed lifestyle and welcoming people from various parts of the world as factors that make the journey worthwhile. She also mentions significant cost savings compared to her previous expenses.

In explaining her motivation for the move, Georgia shared, “I was on a two-week on, two-week off roster, and I was struggling to make friends in Perth, so I thought I could really just move anywhere. I kept seeing videos about the fitness culture in Bali and realized I could be traveling around and exploring the island during my weeks off.”

She further elaborated on the affordability and quality of life in Bali, mentioning the high-quality food at reasonable prices. Georgia emphasized the value for money in dining out and the overall improvement in her quality of life since the relocation.

Another individual, Ethan Spibey, aged 33, made a similar decision to relocate to Barcelona from London with his husband Soren Scharf, aged 35. Despite leaving his PR director role in London in December 2024, Ethan found financial benefits by operating his communications training business remotely from Barcelona while traveling back to the UK for in-person meetings regularly.

Ethan emphasized the convenience of frequent flights between Barcelona and London, the economic feasibility of his arrangement, and the overall cost-effectiveness compared to commuting from other locations like Reading. He highlighted the favorable conditions in Barcelona that made it a suitable choice for his professional endeavors.
