The trial of two brothers accused of assaulting an armed police officer at Manchester Airport ended without a verdict. Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 21, and Muhammad Amaad, 26, pleaded not guilty to the charge, stating they acted in self-defense. The jury was discharged after failing to reach a decision.

Previously, Mr. Amaaz was convicted of assaulting two police officers and a civilian during the same incident. Both brothers were accused of causing actual bodily harm to PC Zachary Marsden. Despite deliberating for almost 20 hours, the jury could not agree on a verdict for either defendant, even though they were advised they could reach a majority decision.

Prosecutors are considering whether to request another retrial following the jury’s inability to reach a verdict. The judge assured jurors that their efforts were not in vain, mentioning that this was not the first jury to struggle with this case. The trial revealed that the brothers had gone to the airport to pick up their mother, leading to a series of altercations.

In a previous trial, Mr. Amaaz was found guilty of assaulting Abdulkareem Ismaeil and two female police officers. The officers suffered varying degrees of injuries, with PC Ward sustaining a broken nose. PC Marsden, the officer involved in the airport incident, experienced post-concussion symptoms, including severe headaches and dizziness.

During the altercation, PC Marsden allegedly used force against Mr. Amaaz, prompting the latter’s fear for his life. Mr. Amaad denied acting aggressively towards PC Marsden and expressed his concern for his safety upon seeing the officer’s gun.
