Prosecutors claim that a seven-year-old girl died due to mistreatment and severe harm inflicted by her caretakers. Jor’Dynn Duncan passed away at the hospital following a cardiac arrest on December 29, 2025. The Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office found that she succumbed to an untreated infection resulting from sharp force injuries, with about 90 injuries documented on her body.

Three women – Emily Kelly, Barbara Renner, and Elyssa Seymore – have been charged in connection with the tragic incident. Emily Kelly, who had custody of Jor’Dynn despite no familial ties, allegedly covered up the abuse by fabricating stories such as a fake trip to Disney World to explain the child’s prolonged school absences.

District Attorney Raymond Tierney described the abuse as systematic and sadistic, spanning months and leading to the child’s deterioration. Kelly faces murder charges, Renner is charged with manslaughter, and Seymore faces charges of unlawful imprisonment, alongside endangering the welfare of a child.

Renner’s legal team argued that she was not responsible for the child’s care or death due to her dementia condition. Seymore’s attorneys denied any involvement in Jor’Dynn’s death, stating that the alleged unlawful imprisonment charges are unrelated to the fatal incident.

Jor’Dynn, a second-grade student in Bayport, was warmly remembered by her teachers for her bright personality. The school district expressed deep sorrow over her passing and pledged support to those affected by the tragedy, emphasizing cooperation with law enforcement amid the ongoing investigation.
