A father who set up a 12-foot swimming pool in his backyard and later added a water slide has become an internet sensation. Liam Tandy gained significant attention on TikTok for sharing videos of his son enjoying the slide and pool in their Wythenshawe residence in Manchester. The 40-year-old revealed that he impulsively decided to create the setup due to his ADHD tendencies.
Upon his return from a vacation, Liam was determined to bring the poolside fun to his everyday life. With temperatures soaring above 30 degrees Celsius this week, Liam and his family have been relishing the refreshing water activities, bringing joy to his children.
Liam expressed his motivation behind the project, stating that moving into a new house with a garden sparked the idea of having a personal pool. He wasted no time in purchasing the pool online, even before his holiday concluded.
To accommodate the pool, Liam transformed a significant portion of his backyard, investing around £1,000 in the 12ft by 24ft pool and acquiring a secondhand playground slide from eBay. As a mechanic, he even constructed a platform over the garage roof to attach the slide securely.
Addressing safety concerns, Liam emphasized the precautions taken, including adding netting around the structure and consulting with neighbors who approved of the setup. He ensures water cleanliness by using a filter and chlorine, albeit jokingly avoiding discussions on associated costs.
Despite initially keeping the pool somewhat secret, a viral video shared by another TikTok user prompted increased attention, possibly leading to a council visit due to the temporary nature of the structure, which can be dismantled swiftly.
As the UK experiences its first significant heatwave of the year and coinciding with the start of the May half term, Liam’s children and their friends are making the most of the pool. Liam cherishes these moments with his kids, acknowledging the positive feedback received and emphasizing the significance of parental dedication and recognition.
