Former SNP chief executive Peter Murrell reportedly used embezzled party funds for extravagant purchases, including a high-end coffee machine, pricey umbrellas, and a book authored by his estranged wife, Nicola Sturgeon. The revelation came after Sturgeon announced the end of their marriage in January 2025.

An extensive 126-page indictment details hundreds of acquisitions allegedly funded through embezzled SNP money, providing a glimpse into Murrell’s lavish spending patterns. Items acquired range from a motorhome and luxury cars to upscale household items, peculiar collectibles, and costly electronics. Notable buys include a Celestron NexStar computerized telescope and accessories, a Jura Giga 5 Cromo coffee machine, designer pepper grinders, and multiple umbrellas.

The list further lists purchases like an oak library ladder, a Royal Mint silver coin set, and an Airbus model helicopter. Additionally, it includes various household items such as toilet seats, designer kitchenware, and entertainment products like DVDs, video games, and a Monopoly board game.

Murrell is said to have splurged on personal accessories, gifts, and outdoor gear, from manicure sets and pens to climbing equipment and biking tools. The purchases also encompassed luxury homeware, novels, and even food items like biscuits. Sturgeon, on her part, emphasized her lack of awareness regarding the misuse of funds, citing separate finances from Murrell and asserting her clearance of any wrongdoing post a Police Scotland investigation.
