Tragic Discovery in Cheshire Lake Search

Published on

A young person’s body has been discovered in the search for a teenager who went missing while swimming in open water in Cheshire. The body, believed to be that of a 17-year-old who was last seen swimming in Pickmere Lake in Northwich on Tuesday, was recovered with the assistance of specialist divers and a helicopter crew.

Even though formal identification is pending, authorities are confident in the body’s identity. Chief Inspector Jamie Lewis expressed condolences, stating, “This was a young boy with his whole life ahead of him. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and acquaintances during this challenging time.”

The recent incidents of individuals drowning in open water during the warm weather have raised concerns. Authorities caution against swimming in open water due to potential hazards like hidden currents, mud banks, or submerged objects that pose risks to swimmers. While not suspicious, the death is a tragic reminder of the dangers associated with open water activities.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service responded to reports of a person entering Pickmere Lake, deploying rescue resources to aid in the search for the missing individual. This incident marks the sixth drowning involving teenagers this week during the ongoing heatwave across the region.
