A security guard at Tesco is in critical condition at a hospital after experiencing brain damage following a choking incident while on duty, according to his family.

Mohamed Nassar, aged 58, was on a break at the Tesco Express store on New Bailey Street in Salford near Manchester city center when the incident occurred on May 8.

Reportedly, Nassar began choking on a doughnut, leading to a cardiac arrest. Paramedics managed to revive him after his heart stopped for 23 minutes. However, his family has been informed that he sustained severe brain damage as a consequence.

Nassar, a father of three, relocated with his family from London to Manchester in 2020 and currently resides in Ardwick. He had a background in music and had been working for a security company as a guard for approximately five years.

His son, Seif Abdelwaneis, expressed the shock and distress experienced by Nassar’s wife and daughters upon learning of the incident. The family rushed to the hospital upon receiving the news.

Currently, Nassar is on life support in intensive care, undergoing assessments to evaluate the extent of his brain injury. Doctors have conveyed to the family the challenging prospects of his survival.

Describing his father as a compassionate and helpful individual, Seif highlighted Nassar’s strong bonds with customers and dedication to his family. Friends and colleagues have attested to Nassar’s focus on his family and his caring nature.

As the primary breadwinner for the family, a GoFundMe page has been established to assist them during this challenging period. Those interested in donating or learning more can access the page via the provided link.
