A Jet2 aircraft traveling from the United Kingdom to Lanzarote was observed performing a sudden maneuver as the pilot decided to abort the landing just moments after the plane had touched the runway.
The incident took place when Jet2 flight LS11DF from Birmingham was approaching Cesar Manrique-Lanzarote Airport in Spain. Video footage captured the aircraft sharply ascending after nearly making contact with the ground.
The reason behind the pilot’s last-minute decision, referred to as a “TOGA” in aviation, was not immediately evident. However, the plane successfully landed approximately 15 minutes later at around 7:30 pm local time after a second landing attempt.
A video shared by Lanzarote Webcam depicted the close call, with one social media user commenting on the near tail strike. Speculations arose about the potential causes, including excessive speed and wind conditions, leading to the decision to execute the TOGA maneuver.
In a similar incident in March, footage showed another aircraft experiencing a sudden wind gust while landing at the same airport, prompting the pilot to perform a quick maneuver to avoid a potential disaster amid strong winds reaching 55mph.
The exact number of passengers onboard the flight originating from Gran Canaria remains undisclosed. The impressive aerial display was recorded by Lanzarote Webcam and shared on social media platforms.
The airline, Jet2, has been contacted for additional comments on the incident.
