Dawn French, known for her role in the series “The Vicar of Dibley,” recently opened up about her concerns regarding aging and the potential loss of mobility. Dealing with arthritis for over a decade, she underwent knee surgery to alleviate the pain. At 68 years old, French expressed apprehension about losing independence and facing immobility in the future.

Reflecting on her health journey, French shared how she initially feared needing a full knee replacement due to arthritis. However, advancements in medical technology allowed her to opt for a partial knee replacement instead. Despite the relief from the surgery, she anticipates the possibility of further operations in the future to maintain mobility.

During an event in Bath, where she discussed her latest book “Enough,” French revealed her unconventional writing process. Preferring pen and paper over a computer, she writes her manuscripts by hand, acknowledging the environmental impact of using excessive paper. She humorously mentioned her reliance on an electric pencil sharpener and the assistance of someone else to type up her handwritten drafts.

French expressed a desire to publish a novel entirely in her handwriting, emphasizing the personal touch it would bring to her work. Despite her success as an author, she remains grounded in her traditional approach to writing, showcasing a unique blend of creativity and humility in her craft.
