Another scandal involving the royal family has been exposed in the recent National Audit Report. It has been revealed that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was living rent-free in the Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park while also profiting from renting out attached cottages. Similarly, his brother Edward resides rent-free in Bagshot Park and has been earning £130,000 annually by renting out the stable block.
This behavior is not only unethical but also a burden on taxpayers. Despite their wealth, the royal family continues to exploit public funds through questionable deals. Recent instances include charging soldiers for using Dartmoor, charging the Royal Navy for mooring ships, and charging the NHS and Ministry of Justice exorbitant amounts for various services.
The royal family’s annual cost to taxpayers is approximately half a billion pounds, yet their demands for more money persist. Calls for a thorough investigation by parliament’s Public Accounts Committee into royal funding are mounting, especially among younger generations who are increasingly in favor of a republic. Urgent reforms are necessary if the monarchy hopes to maintain public support.
