“Audi Driver Gets Life for Fatal Sheffield Crash”

Published on

A young man named Zulkernain Ahmed has been sentenced to life in prison for his role in a tragic incident where he used his Audi car as a weapon in a crash that resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy named Abdullah Yaser Abdullah Taleb. The court determined that Ahmed deliberately targeted a group of e-bike riders in Sheffield, leading to the fatal collision with Abdullah, who had recently arrived in England from war-torn Yemen. Ahmed has been mandated to serve a minimum of 30 years behind bars.

Accompanying Ahmed in the car was his brother, Armaan Ahmed, who received a 17-year prison sentence. The judge imposed an additional two years to Armaan’s term for manslaughter due to the aggravating circumstances involved. Armaan will be eligible for release on license after serving two-thirds of his sentence.

The tragic incident occurred on Staniforth Road in Sheffield, where Abdullah was walking along the pavement when he was struck by the Audi after it mounted a kerb. The court was informed that Zulkernain was targeting a specific group of e-bike riders due to a dispute, and Abdullah became an unintended victim.

During the trial at Sheffield Crown Court, Abdullah’s father, Yaser Abdullah Al Yazidi, shared a poignant victim impact statement, highlighting the challenges his family faced in Yemen and their hopes for a better life in England. Mr. Al Yazidi described Abdullah as a vibrant young man who was eager to learn, integrate into the community, and build a future in a safe environment.

Abdullah’s untimely death shattered his family, with his father expressing deep sorrow over the loss and the lasting impact it has had on their lives. The court also heard that Zulkernain had targeted one of the e-bike riders, La’Rome Divers, as part of a revenge attack related to an e-bike theft incident.

A psychologist’s report presented during the trial highlighted Zulkernain’s mental health struggles, including depression and anxiety, which may have influenced his actions. Zulkernain expressed remorse in a letter, apologizing for his actions and expressing his desire to make amends. He mentioned learning CPR and chest compressions in prison as a way to contribute positively in the future.
