An investigation into a homicide has been initiated following the discovery of a deceased man inside the former TGI Fridays establishment in Sheffield.

Two women, aged 35 and 54, were apprehended on suspicion of murder on Thursday (June 11) after South Yorkshire Police responded to reports of dubious activities at the abandoned location the previous night. During their inquiries at the scene, officers located the body of a 55-year-old male.

While the man has not been officially identified yet, his family has been informed and is receiving assistance from authorities. A perimeter around the building is projected to be maintained until this evening (Friday, June 12).

DCI Laura Procter, the Senior Investigating Officer, stated, “Since the discovery of the man’s body, officers have been conducting various investigations to piece together the events leading up to this tragic incident.”

“I urge anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activities in the vicinity of the TGI Fridays building in the days prior to Wednesday to contact us,” as reported by Yorkshire Live.

“We are committed to uncovering the truth, which includes detaining two women who are currently in custody for questioning. If you possess any information that could assist us, regardless of its significance, please come forward.”

TGI Fridays has promptly distanced itself from the property, confirming the closure of the Sheffield Road site in January 2026 and clarifying that it is no longer under the ownership of the company or any affiliated entity.

The Sheffield branch was one of 16 UK restaurants shuttered following the UK operator of TGI Fridays entering administration.
