A woman preparing for her wedding saved her partner’s life by performing CPR for 20 minutes after he collapsed during a walk in Wales. Justyce Crossman and David Robinson, 21, were returning from a visit to a waterfall in Hafren Forest when David suddenly fell to the ground and started convulsing. Justyce quickly called emergency services and administered CPR until paramedics arrived and used a defibrillator to stabilize David before he was airlifted to a hospital for further treatment.
At the hospital, David was diagnosed with a rare heart condition known as Anomalous Left Coronary Artery from the Pulmonary Artery [ALCAPA]. He underwent open-heart surgery and had a permanent defibrillator implanted. ALCAPA is a rare defect where the left coronary artery arises from the pulmonary artery instead of the aorta, affecting approximately one in 300,000 babies. Despite living with this condition unknowingly for 21 years, David survived thanks to the timely response of Justyce.
Justyce emphasized the importance of knowing CPR, stating that her quick actions were crucial in saving David’s life. David expressed gratitude towards Justyce for her swift thinking and believes their bond has grown stronger through this experience. Following the incident, the couple has been involved in fundraising efforts with a defibrillator charity to install more public defibrillators.
Justyce, who hails from Australia, had prior nursing training and is now inspired to become a paramedic. She stressed the significance of CPR training for everyone, highlighting how it can be a life-saving skill in emergencies. The couple’s ordeal has brought them closer, and they are now advocates for raising awareness about the importance of CPR and the availability of defibrillators in public places to improve survival rates in emergencies.
