Gasly Reclaims Podium in Monaco GP Appeal Victory

Published on

Isack Hadjar’s first Red Bull podium finish was revoked by Alpine after an appeal following the Monaco Grand Prix. Pierre Gasly’s two five-second penalties were overturned, moving him back to third place and pushing Hadjar to fourth in the final results.

Gasly, along with other drivers, received penalties for speeding in the pit lane during the race. Gasly claimed he had activated his speed limiter on time and was disappointed to lose his podium finish.

Alpine quickly lodged a Right of Review request with the FIA after the race. The hearing, held in Barcelona, deemed Alpine’s request admissible due to new and relevant evidence presented.

Formula One Management provided evidence that the timing loops used to measure car speeds were inaccurate, resulting in Gasly’s speed being wrongly calculated along with other drivers. As Gasly’s team was the only one to request a review, only his penalties were overturned.

Following the hearing’s conclusion, it was confirmed that Gasly’s third-place finish was reinstated. Alpine expressed satisfaction with the FIA’s decision and thanked all parties involved in the process.

The stewards explained that Gasly did not exceed the pit lane speed limit, leading to the rescinding of his penalties. Despite the timing system error affecting multiple drivers, only Gasly’s penalties were overturned as no other team pursued a Right of Review.

Gasly’s penalties were removed, and the race classification was adjusted accordingly. The stewards acknowledged that other drivers were penalized, but those penalties could not be reversed once served.

Alpine’s successful appeal highlights the importance of accuracy in race timing systems and the impact it can have on race outcomes.
