Professional boxer Tyson Fury is rumored to be considering purchasing a private island at a cost of £6 million to accommodate his new multi-million pound superyacht. After residing in the Isle of Man with his family in an £8 million property, the 37-year-old heavyweight champion seems to be exploring new prospects.
According to sources, Fury is in the process of having a £42 million superyacht constructed for his retirement and is interested in acquiring Drake’s Island off Plymouth, Devon, as a docking location. The strategic location of Drake’s Island, close to Cornwall which Fury adores, and the presence of a nearby naval base for security reasons, have caught his attention. Additionally, Fury is drawn to the island for its reputedly exceptional ice cream offerings.
The island, currently listed for sale at £6 million, is expected to undergo substantial renovations costing around £20 million. Businessman Morgan Phillips, who acquired the island in 2019, is seeking a buyer or potential partner to move the project forward. Drake’s Island, historically known as St Nicholas Island and recognized for its military significance dating back to the 16th Century, features designated ancient monuments and Grade II listed buildings, making it a heritage site of national importance.
With its diverse wildlife and position within the Plymouth Sound and Estuaries Special Area of Conservation, Drake’s Island presents a unique opportunity for preservation and development. Interest from potential buyers and investors has already been expressed, prompting further exploration of opportunities surrounding the island’s future.
Representatives of Tyson Fury have been approached for comment by Mirror regarding these developments.
