A tragic incident unfolded at a World Cup viewing party as a young child lost his life in what authorities suspect to be an accidental drowning. The 8-year-old boy, Taylor Thach, became unresponsive while attending the event at a friend’s residence in California.
Emergency responders were called to the scene around 7:30 pm on June 12, where they found Taylor and immediately administered life-saving measures before transporting him to a nearby hospital.
The heartbreaking event took place in El Segundo, California, at a friend’s home. Despite efforts at Harbor-UCLA Medical Centre, Taylor could not be saved.
Eric Atkinson, Investigations Lieutenant at El Segundo Police Department, mentioned that all indications point towards accidental drowning, pending the results of an autopsy. Authorities are currently gathering statements from attendees of the World Cup gathering.
In a show of support, the local community initiated a GoFundMe campaign for Taylor’s grieving family. Surpassing the initial goal of $5,000, the fundraiser has raised over $83,000 within four days, with all proceeds directed to Taylor’s mother, Sokunthea, father, Somnang, and brother, Jordan Thach.
Remembered for his kind-hearted nature and friendly demeanor, Taylor was a cherished student at Center Street School. A neighbor, organizing the fundraiser, described Taylor as an affectionate and polite individual who brought joy to those around him.
The community is reeling from the loss and has rallied together to aid the Thach family during this challenging period. Contributions, thoughts, and prayers are encouraged for the family, classmates, teachers, and friends of Taylor. Sharing the fundraiser page and preserving Taylor’s memory are also valued gestures.
