Ukraine Launches Major Drone Strike on Moscow

Published on

Ukraine conducted a significant drone strike on Moscow, marking the largest attack since the full-scale war began. Approximately 200 drones targeted various locations, including a major oil refinery in southeast Moscow and the country’s busiest airport. The strikes caused fires and forced evacuations, resulting in injuries and damages in the region.

Images captured flames engulfing the Moscow Oil Refinery, with thick black smoke spreading across the southern skyline of the capital. Local officials confirmed injuries in the Moscow region, with reports of a drone crashing into an apartment building and sparking fires at a shopping center on the outskirts of the city. Additionally, a separate drone attack on Russia’s Rostov region resulted in casualties.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky praised the strikes on social media, describing them as a justified response to Russian aggression against Ukraine. This recent attack on the Moscow Oil Refinery is the second within the week and the third in a month, emphasizing the ongoing conflict between the two nations.

The assault on Moscow, as reported by Russia’s state TASS news agency, is the most extensive in at least two years. Notably, this attack coincided with a summit hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin in Kazan, further escalating tensions between the countries. Despite the significant damage caused, Putin has not publicly addressed the situation.

The onslaught led to the closure of all Moscow airports, causing flight disruptions and delays. Russian air defenses managed to intercept a large number of Ukrainian drones approaching Moscow, highlighting the intensity of the conflict. The ongoing drone strikes by Kyiv target crucial Russian infrastructure, reflecting the stalled diplomatic efforts to resolve the prolonged conflict.

Russia retaliated with drone and missile attacks on Ukraine, intensifying the already volatile situation. The recent spate of Ukrainian strikes has forced the Kremlin to respond, with Putin vowing to enhance air defenses and impose restrictions on civilian aircraft in Moscow’s airspace. The Russian authorities have limited the dissemination of information and images from the attack sites, maintaining a tight control on media coverage.

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine, now Europe’s deadliest since World War II, shows no signs of abating as both sides continue to engage in aggressive military actions. International pressure mounts for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, as world leaders call for negotiations to end the devastating war.
