Paul Speak, a close friend and the long-time manager of the late boxing champion Ricky Hatton, expressed that Hatton would be thrilled to see his only son’s return to the ring, honoring his father’s legacy. Hatton passed away on September 14 at the age of 46, discovered unresponsive at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, by Speak. He left behind three children – Campbell, 25, Millie, 14, and Fearne, 13.

Campbell, deeply affected by his father’s death, pursued a career in professional boxing like his dad but retired in 2024. Recently, he surprised many by joining Misfits Boxing, planning a significant comeback to the sport. In a tribute to his father, Campbell announced his return in an exhibition match alongside Kell Brook, with the event’s proceeds benefiting the Ricky Hatton Foundation. Speaking about the decision, Campbell expressed his eagerness to make his father proud and restart his boxing journey.

At a charity auction event in London, Speak disclosed future plans for the Ricky Hatton Foundation, including a charity football match in which Hatton’s son will participate. Speak praised Campbell’s involvement with Misfits and highlighted how it provides him with a positive focus and keeps him away from trouble, a sentiment that he believes would make Ricky proud.

Reflecting on Hatton’s legacy, Speak described how the public outpouring of love at the charity auction touched him deeply, expressing his wish for Hatton’s presence. Speak shared anecdotes about his enduring friendship with Hatton, recounting both the highs and lows they experienced together. He commended Hatton for his impact on mental health awareness and his ability to connect with people on a personal level.

One anecdote that stands out for Speak is Hatton’s warm-hearted nature, illustrated by a humorous incident at a pub during a trip to an event in Wigan. Despite being in a hurry, Hatton engaged in a spontaneous game of pool with locals, showcasing his carefree and friendly demeanor.

The story of Ricky Hatton’s legacy and his son’s tribute through boxing resonates with many, showcasing the enduring impact of a beloved sports figure.
