Love Island celebrity Jess Harding took a fashion risk that could have violated Royal Ascot’s stringent dress code with her recent outfit choice. This issue has gained attention following Lizzie Cundy being turned away for her attire, a decision she openly expressed dissatisfaction with.
The social media influencer, known for her appearance on Season 10 of the dating show and her victory alongside Sammy Root, shared a sneak peek of her attire for the day at the races on Instagram. Jess, 25, showcased a stunning pale yellow off-the-shoulder dress, complemented by white lace gloves, pointed heels, and a matching hat.
Despite the glamour of her ensemble, Jess’ outfit teetered on the edge of breaching the rigid guidelines of Royal Ascot, a venue renowned for its strict dress codes in different enclosures. The Royal Enclosure, the most exclusive section, mandates a traditional and formal dress code for ladies, requiring them to wear hats or headpieces with a solid base of at least 10cm. Dresses must be modest in length, just above the knee or longer, as outlined on the official Royal Ascot website.
Specific rules apply to strap width, prohibiting strapless, halter-neck, and off-the-shoulder styles. While trouser suits and jumpsuits are permissible, they must be full-length, and midriffs must remain covered. Men are expected to sport black, grey, or navy morning dress, complete with a waistcoat, necktie, and a black or grey top hat, alongside black dress shoes and ankle-covering socks.
However, different enclosures have varying regulations. For instance, the Queen Anne Enclosure necessitates headwear at all times for women, disallowing strapless or off-the-shoulder attire and requiring covered midriffs. Trouser suits and jumpsuits must extend below the knee, while men are obliged to wear a full-length suit with a shirt and tie, paired with smart shoes.
The Village Enclosure and the Windsor Enclosure adopt more relaxed standards. In the Village Enclosure, men must wear jackets, full-length trousers, collared shirts, and a tie, while women are instructed to wear headwear with modest guidelines, including covered midriffs and no strapless tops.
The Windsor Enclosure maintains a smart attire preference without strict formal attire rules. Attire like sportswear, ripped jeans, and fancy dress is prohibited in this section. Jess’s enclosure choice remains undisclosed.
This daring fashion decision by Jess followed Lizzie Cundy’s exclusion from Royal Ascot due to her outfit. Lizzie, 58, expressed regret for any offense caused by her cream midi dress with cut-outs, despite pairing it with a Saint Laurent clutch, a white feather fascinator, and matching shoes. She acknowledged receiving criticism for her outfit, emphasizing its conservative nature compared to her past choices.
