Police disclosed that the firearm used in the fatal shooting of Ellis Cox had been discharged in two prior incidents before his tragic death two years ago. Ellis, 19, was fatally shot in Aintree by individuals on electric bikes, amidst a conflict of street-level drug dealings in north Liverpool. Although Ellis was not involved in criminal activities, his companions that night were associated with a targeted gang.

The murder weapon, a self-loading pistol, was previously used to shoot at a car in Garston and to pepper a flat in Walton with bullets. Detective Chief Inspector Steve McGrath mentioned that the firearm has not been used since Ellis’ murder and remains unrecovered. A £20,000 Crimestoppers reward has been extended to encourage anyone with information to come forward, doubling the reward with additional funds raised by Ellis’ family.

Ellis’ family expressed their ongoing quest for justice on the anniversary of his death. Carolyn Cox, Ellis’ mother, urged individuals to assist in solving the case and removing dangerous individuals from the streets. The family emphasized the need for closure and justice for Ellis, highlighting the impact of his loss on their lives.

Detective McGrath provided insights into the context leading to the shooting, mentioning ongoing disputes and criminal activities in the area involving various groups. The investigation has resulted in several arrests, but the main suspects remain under scrutiny. McGrath expressed confidence in nearing the arrest of the individual responsible for Ellis’ murder, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in solving the case.
