Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Márquez share different perspectives on purchasing a property in Spain. The couple, who first met on Strictly Come Dancing in 2017, recently visited Gorka’s homeland to explore potential holiday homes.

Reflecting on their trip, Gemma, aged 41, confessed to underestimating the complexity of the process. During a podcast episode called Lost In Translation, she described their two-night stay and extensive house-hunting activities. While their goal remains to acquire a vacation residence, they have temporarily postponed the plan after realizing the intricate nature of property transactions in Spain compared to the UK.

Gorka emphasized that buying real estate abroad involves distinct regulations and cannot be rushed. Discussing Gemma’s enthusiastic approach to house hunting, he humorously mentioned her swift transition from zero to full-on commitment.

Acknowledging their differing eagerness levels, Gemma highlighted her strong attraction to the Spanish lifestyle, while Gorka proposed revisiting Spain with their children, Mia, aged six, and Thiago, aged two, to explore more options and locations.

Despite Gemma’s enthusiasm, she shared that finding the right property entails a personal connection. She expressed the need to physically experience the potential homes to determine if they feel like a second home.

The couple, who got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2021, often face inquiries about their wedding plans. Gemma disclosed their preference for an intimate ceremony with close family, emphasizing a casual and small celebration over a grand affair.
