“Vintage Entrepreneur Sees Surge in Sales Amid World Cup Fever”

Published on

With World Cup excitement at its peak, vintage clothing entrepreneur Callum is capitalizing on the opportunity to boost his sales.

Operating from Cheshire, the 27-year-old business owner has witnessed a surge in interest for England football jerseys since the tournament commenced earlier this month.

During England’s 4-2 victory over Croatia, Callum found himself inundated with inquiries as customers reached out to inquire about his available stock.

Expressing his current focus, Callum stated, “I’ve been experiencing high demand for England shirts. I’ve stocked approximately 100 shirts for this World Cup. Just yesterday, I dispatched around 20 to 25 England jerseys. It’s been a bustling time!”

“While I strive to source vintage pieces, I also carry some modern ones, including items from the Euros two years ago,” he added.

Highlighting a successful sale, Callum mentioned, “One of my best transactions was a 2000 England shirt that fetched £70 at a market. On Vinted, I usually sell them for around £30 to £35.”

Watching an England match recently, Callum found himself continuously fielding requests for shirts throughout the entire 90-minute game.

Emphasizing his primary revenue stream from Vinted, where he can rake in approximately £2,500 in a good month, Callum also engages in selling on other platforms and at local markets.

Adapting swiftly to fluctuating trends is crucial, according to Callum, for achieving success in the resale business.

He highlighted, “My typical items include Carhartt products like trousers, t-shirts, and jackets. However, I now focus on acquiring trendy items such as Realtree and WYSE women’s clothing, which are currently in high demand.”

“Previously, North Face items, particularly the popular puffer jackets, sold remarkably well, often priced above £100. Trends evolve rapidly, and brands like Tommy Hilfiger or Ralph Lauren, once favored, are now quieter in the market,” he added.

To enhance sales, Callum stresses the importance of active engagement on selling platforms and the readiness to negotiate with potential buyers.

He explained, “Promptly sending offers, communicating with customers, and being responsive are key elements for success.”

Regarding tax obligations for online sellers, it is essential to note that tax payment may apply if items were purchased with the intent to generate profit. However, selling personal belongings generally does not incur tax liability.
