A giraffe named Gracie has gone missing for almost two weeks, causing difficulty in locating her. The three-year-old giraffe escaped from Cedar Hollow Ranch in Texas, venturing into an unfamiliar area on the property. Owner Vic Jones mentioned that Gracie ventured onto rocky ledges and hillside areas where other giraffes had never explored, complicating the search efforts.
Despite deploying helicopters and receiving several sightings, finding Gracie has proven challenging. The ranch is situated in rural Real County, prompting around 2,700 residents to be on the lookout for the missing giraffe. Vic acknowledged that the search area’s remoteness lowers the chances of Gracie encountering people, as she roams in heavily wooded and rough terrains.
Notably, this is the first time one of Vic’s giraffes has gone missing, although he has faced similar situations with other animals in the past. While Texas is not a natural habitat for giraffes, Vic assured that Gracie can find ample vegetation for feeding without facing threats from local wildlife.
Initially, the search spanned approximately 7,500 acres, with helicopters scanning the area yielding no success. Subsequent sightings indicated Gracie had moved farther south, but delayed response times hindered the search efforts. A reward of $5,000 (£3,600) is available for anyone aiding in Gracie’s safe return.
Gracie’s disappearance follows the recovery of two baby giraffes that vanished from a Virginia zoo in 2025. The calves were found safe and transferred to a specialized giraffe care facility after disappearing from Natural Bridge Zoo during an animal abuse investigation by state authorities. The exact location of their recovery was not disclosed by authorities.
