London Mayor Sadiq Khan has suggested that US President Donald Trump harbors an unusual affection for him, as Trump resumed his criticism against Khan. Khan humorously remarked that he seems to be residing rent-free in Trump’s thoughts, following the President’s recent derogatory comments labeling him as “incompetent” and a “bad person.”

Trump, unprompted, took a swipe at Khan, calling him “grossly incompetent” to reporters. In response, Khan, who has held the position of London Mayor for over a decade and won three elections, expressed his confusion over Trump’s fixation on him, jokingly mentioning that Trump might have developed a fondness for him due to being the mayor of a progressive, multicultural, and successful city.

Highlighting London’s recent recognition as the world’s best city with the Lee Kuan Yew Prize in urban planning, Khan hinted that this achievement might have irked Trump. The ongoing feud between the two dates back to 2015 when Khan criticized Trump’s anti-Muslim stance, leading to a series of public disputes, including Trump misrepresenting Khan’s statements on the London Bridge terror attack in 2017.

Despite Trump’s repeated verbal attacks, Khan remains steadfast in his position and has no intentions of seeking a return to national politics like Andy Burnham, the newly elected MP for Makerfield. Khan expressed contentment with his current role as the Mayor of London and expressed eagerness to collaborate with Burnham, whom he considers a friend and ally.

Looking ahead, Khan expressed disappointment over Sir Keir Starmer’s announcement to resign as Prime Minister, emphasizing the importance of strong political partnerships in navigating the complexities of governance.
