Newly released video footage captures the murderer of Henry Nowak informing police that he was bleeding prior to the officers taking eight minutes to discover that he had been fatally stabbed.
In the video, Vickrum Digwa falsely alleges that Henry, 18, had racially attacked him in Southampton. Digwa, a 23-year-old Sikh, claims in the police bodycam footage that Henry sustained his bloody injuries either from a punch or falling while climbing on bins.
According to Digwa, Henry, allegedly drunk, attacked him and tore off his turban. Notably, Digwa was not handcuffed when arrested for attempted murder, unlike Henry who was handcuffed by the same officers moments earlier.
Digwa was sentenced to 23 years in prison for murder and possession of an offensive weapon at Southampton Crown Court, leading to violent protests in the city. The murder occurred in December last year while Henry was returning from a university night out.
The footage also captures Digwa’s father, Moga Singh, asserting to the police that his son had been assaulted by Henry. Digwa claimed that Henry had pulled his turban off and attacked him, leading to a scuffle.
Despite Digwa’s false claims, evidence presented during the trial revealed a different narrative. Digwa was described as a weapons enthusiast with an assortment of weapons in his possession. The arrest of Henry sparked violent protests in Southampton, resulting in charges against 25 protesters for violent disorder.
Hampshire Constabulary is currently under investigation by the IOPC regarding the arrest.
