Charli XCX Apologizes for Live Radio F-Bomb

Published on

Radio 1 fans erupted in laughter on the morning of Friday, June 26, when singer Charli XCX had to say sorry for dropping an expletive on live air. The 33-year-old artist, whose real name is Charlotte Emma Aitchison, was a guest on Greg James’ Breakfast show when she unintentionally let slip the F-bomb.

A video clip of their interaction was later posted online, showing Greg challenging Charli to play a game called Wrong-Uns by giving him a compliment. After a brief pause, Charli blurted out, “You… are lovely.”

Greg jokingly responded, “That’s the incorrect response,” which led Charli to utter, “Oh shoot! Fudge!” Greg swiftly defused the situation by explaining that in the game’s context, curse words don’t count as curses.

Apologizing profusely, Charli expressed her regret, admitting, “I should not have done that.” Greg lightened the mood by saying, “It’s no problem, really. It’s just grown-ups swearing.” He then humorously mentioned a avoided question about the meaning of BBC.

Acknowledging her error, Charli continued to say sorry, emphasizing, “It’s the one thing you said not to do – and I did it.”

Reacting to the incident, one listener commented that it was amusing for Charli to swear live on a morning show, while another joked that Greg was likely frightened for his job. A third person noted Charli’s breach of radio etiquette.

The BBC responded by confirming that all guests are briefed before live appearances on Radio 1 and that both Charli and Greg promptly apologized on air.

Charli XCX’s upcoming album, “Music, Fashion, Film,” will be released on July 24.
