Temperatures are set to cool down after a recent heatwave that brought record-breaking weather conditions to the UK. The country experienced its hottest June days ever this week, with temperatures hitting 37.3C in Santon Downham, Suffolk.

The Met Office’s latest forecast predicts peak temperatures of 33C in the south and 30C in the north today. However, relief is on the way as temperatures are expected to drop below 30C tomorrow, with highs of 27C in the south and 23C in the north.

Most regions will no longer be under official heatwave conditions as temperatures return to normal levels. The criteria for a heatwave vary across different regions, with thresholds ranging from 25C to 28C.

Tomorrow morning, temperatures are expected to reach 21C in East Anglia, 20C in London, 18C in the Midlands, 17C in Cardiff, 15C in Glasgow, and 13C in parts of Northern Ireland. Met Office Chief Forecaster Andy Page mentioned that conditions are gradually shifting, with the southeast retaining warmth the longest.

Western Scotland and Northern Ireland will experience rain today, with showers likely to spread south on Sunday. The southeast is expected to remain dry, although there is a risk of thunderstorms before temperatures normalize on Sunday and Monday.

Looking ahead to next week, the Met Office forecasts fresher conditions with sunny spells and a possibility of showers, especially on Tuesday and in the northwest. Light winds are expected, creating a pleasant atmosphere during sunny periods.
