A heartbroken father has shared the devastating moment when his four children, their mother, and grandmother were discovered deceased in their residence, suspected of being poisoned. The tragic incident took place in Mechanicville, New York State, where the bodies of Amy Steadman, 64, her daughter Sarah Myers, 44, and their grandchildren Harper (13), Hudson (11), Gavin (10), and Gracelynn (10) were found.
Authorities made the grim find after responding to a welfare check call at the apartment. Chief William Rabbitt of the Mechanicville Police Department disclosed that evidence pointed to intentional poisoning, with one child also having suffered fatal blunt-force injuries according to the autopsy report. A note found at the scene and circumstantial evidence strongly suggested Amy Steadman’s involvement in the tragedy.
Brady Harmon, the children’s father, has now broken his silence, revealing a custody dispute with Sarah Myers and plans for the children to spend the summer with him in Utah. Harmon detailed his marriage to Myers in 2015, separation four years later, and the last time he saw his children. He mentioned a call from Myers on June 10, informing him that the children were unwell, just days after his lawyer sent legal documents regarding a custody hearing.
Expressing his concerns, Harmon mentioned contacting the police multiple times for welfare checks upon learning about the children’s illness. He reminisced about speaking with his children via FaceTime and building excitement for their upcoming visit to Utah.
Describing his children as joyful, Harmon recalled their interactions and shared his disbelief upon realizing their absence just before Father’s Day. He expressed shock and sorrow at the tragic events, emphasizing the heinous nature of such actions towards children.
Amid the unfolding tragedy, Steadman’s ex-husband, John Bauman, expressed disbelief that Steadman and Myers could be involved in the deaths, highlighting their love for the children. Harmon refuted allegations against him, claiming Myers as the instigator rather than a victim.
Authorities have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat, although details on the incident remain scarce, leaving the community deeply affected by the loss.
