Twin infant sisters, aged 15 months, were tragically discovered deceased in their beds, with French authorities conducting an investigation into the cause suspected to be “dehydration.”
The parents notified emergency services upon finding the infants unresponsive. Additionally, four other siblings, aged between three to six, were also found in a dehydrated state, with one child requiring airlifting to a hospital, as per local reports.
The incident unfolded in Beuvrages, near Valenciennes, leading to the parents being detained at the local police station.
A perimeter has been established outside their residence, with neighbors mentioning the family’s recent arrival at the location roughly two months ago, maintaining a low profile. Reports suggest that the family had no prior involvement with social services.
The public prosecutor of Valenciennes released a statement indicating that the twins were discovered “lifeless in their beds” by emergency responders.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to ascertain the circumstances of their passing, focusing on the potential role of dehydration attributed to the high room temperature.
France experienced an estimated 1,000 additional fatalities during a recent extreme heat wave, prompting concerns from global health organizations about the continent’s escalating temperatures and the need for enhanced protective measures for citizens.
