The UK could be in for another heatwave according to the latest forecast by the Met Office, with potential for record-breaking temperatures. Neil Armstrong, a forecaster at the Met Office, predicts a pleasant week ahead with temperatures mainly in the low to mid-20s after last week’s historic heatwave that saw the warmest June day on record at 37.7C.

The GFS weather model indicates the possibility of breaking temperature records next week, with data suggesting a potential rise to 41C, nearing the current all-time high of 40.3C set during the scorching July 2022 heatwave. Projections for next Monday show highs of 35C to 36C in southern, eastern, and central England, with temperatures reaching 33C in Yorkshire and 31C in South Wales.

Tuesday could bring unprecedented heat, with expected highs of 40C and 41C from Yorkshire to London and the east. The GFS model anticipates a slight cooldown on Wednesday, with temperatures peaking at 35C in the southeast. Temperature anomaly maps for Tuesday illustrate temperatures well above the seasonal average, with the UK shaded in red and black.

The GFS model suggests that up to 17 counties in England could experience temperatures of 40C or higher. The Met Office indicates a growing likelihood of a return to heatwave conditions next week, yet the chance of extreme high temperatures like those seen last week remains low for now.

Met Office forecasters, including Tony Wisson, mention that temperatures could approach the high 20s this weekend in parts of England, possibly reaching 30C in the southeast and the high 20s in Wales. While a return to heatwave conditions is increasingly probable, extreme heat and high humidity levels similar to last week are not expected at this time.
