Actress Anna Dawson, famous for her role as Violet Bucket in the classic sitcom Keeping Up Appearances, has passed away at 88. The news was confirmed in a statement announcing her peaceful death on Saturday.

The announcement was made by members of her church, Christ Church Anglican in Kororāreka Russell, New Zealand, through a heartfelt post on Facebook. They expressed their deep sadness at the loss of Anna Boulter (nee Dawson), a cherished member of their community.

Anna’s screen career began in 1964 with Dixon of Dock Green, leading to roles in Slapstick and Old Lace and Mother Goose. She gained prominence in the 70s appearing in shows like the Benny Hill Show and the Morecambe and Wise Show, later making appearances on game shows such as Blankety Blank and Give Us a Clue.

Her most notable role as Violet in Keeping Up Appearances in the mid-90s alongside co-stars like Patricia Routledge, Clive Swift, Geoffery Hughes, and Josephine Tewson. Despite being credited for only four episodes, she made a lasting impact on the show.

Following her role as Violet, Anna retired from acting and moved to New Zealand with her husband. Her passing comes shortly after her husband John Boulter’s death just six months ago.

The news of Anna’s death follows the loss of her co-star, Dame Patricia Routledge, who passed away last October at the age of 96. Her agent announced her peaceful passing, highlighting Routledge’s enduring passion for her craft and connection with audiences.
