Helen Skelton Opens Up About Post-Split Humiliation

Published on

Helen Skelton recently shared her feelings of embarrassment following her separation from Richie Myler. The former Blue Peter host, aged 42, tied the knot with Myler in December 2013, but their relationship ended almost a decade later, prompting Richie to move out of their home.

Despite being in the entertainment industry since 2005, when she became one of BBC’s youngest breakfast presenters on Radio Cumbria, Helen admitted that dealing with the aftermath of her breakup was humiliating. She grew up in a small village in Cumbria where people were well-informed about her personal life, often approaching her family with questions.

Reflecting on the situation, Helen expressed discomfort about the public knowing details of her past, especially in her hometown. She mentioned instances where her father overheard discussions about her at his local golf club, and Sainsbury’s employees queried her about her personal life while she shopped.

Following her split from Richie, Helen participated in Strictly Come Dancing, where she finished as a runner-up. This opportunity allowed her to showcase her independence and resilience without relying on a partner.

During her time on the show, Helen performed a dance to Mein Herr from Cabaret, which she referred to as her “revenge dance.” This performance was significant for her as it symbolized her desire to control her own narrative and break free from the judgment and pitying glances she often received.

Despite rumors suggesting a romantic involvement with her Morning Live co-star Gethin Jones, Helen clarified that they are just close friends. She dismissed any speculation about a romantic relationship between them, emphasizing that they are solely colleagues.

Helen also addressed the idea of midlife invisibility for women, rejecting the notion and highlighting the importance of prioritizing self-care and personal growth amid various responsibilities. She emphasized the role of women in taking charge of their lives and supporting others, even when feeling undervalued by society.

In conclusion, Helen emphasized the importance of self-worth and empowerment, urging women to prioritize their well-being and stand confidently in their own narratives.
