Two individuals, a man and a woman, tragically lost their lives in a devastating incident when a fire engulfed a residence on Cragside Avenue in North Tyneside. The fire broke out during the early hours of the morning, prompting the arrival of fire crews to tackle the blaze. Despite rescue efforts, the man in his 40s and the woman in her 70s succumbed to the fire at the scene. Another man in his 70s was found inside the house and was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment.
As a precautionary measure, two adjacent properties were evacuated, and a cordon remains in place. Northumbria Police confirmed the tragic deaths, expressing condolences to the families affected. Detective Inspector Barry McAtominey emphasized the severity of the situation and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
The Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service reported that multiple appliances responded to the emergency call, with firefighters successfully rescuing individuals from the burning property. The North East Ambulance Service also played a crucial role in the response, dispatching several units to the scene.
