Filming for The Great British Bake Off is currently in progress, with producers taking significant steps to ensure the show proceeds smoothly despite the ongoing heatwave. Despite the scorching temperatures and advice to limit non-essential travel, filming has continued according to schedule.
Speculations arose among fans regarding the Channel 4 series’ filming schedule, with many assuming it would be halted due to the extreme weather conditions. However, it has been confirmed that filming is ongoing as planned, thanks to additional precautions implemented by Love Productions, the show’s creators.
A source from the show mentioned that every possible measure has been implemented to ensure the bakers’ comfort. The lighting technician, who is the first to arrive each morning, ventilates the tent, creating airflow before everyone else arrives. Additionally, production assistants have been distributing ice lollies to the bakers and crew throughout the day to help them cope with the heat.
Another insider from Channel 4 revealed that the tent’s location in Welford Park, Berkshire, offers the crew and contestants the opportunity to cool off in a nearby stream during breaks. The favorable weather conditions during filming in late May provided a welcome breeze, preventing the bakes from becoming unstable or the judges, Paul Hollywood and newcomer Nigella Lawson, from appearing too warm on screen.
The natural airflow in the tent, facilitated by the lighting technician, created a wind tunnel effect, leading to the sides of the tent needing to be raised to prevent the bakes from toppling over during the showstopper challenge. The upcoming season of Bake Off is anticipated to premiere in the Fall, with Nigella joining as a judge, succeeding Prue Leith.
