Actress Lisa Faulkner Battles Breast Cancer

Published on

Actress and TV personality Lisa Faulkner recently shared that she underwent surgery after being diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer. The 54-year-old star, known for her roles in EastEnders and Holby City, had the procedure two weeks ago and has received a positive report from her medical team.

While Faulkner still needs to undergo radiotherapy, she took to Instagram to reassure her 372,000 followers that she is on the path to recovery. She expressed gratitude for the successful surgery, stating, “I’ve had my results back, and they’ve got everything out, and so it’s all clear, and I just need now to have some radiotherapy in a few weeks. I’ve still got quite a bit of healing to do, but I’m good, I’m well, and feeling so much better.”

Encouraging others to prioritize regular check-ups, Faulkner emphasized the importance of early detection. She credited a routine mammogram for identifying her condition, stating, “Don’t put them off, go, because they found this and without that mammogram it wouldn’t have been picked up.”

Expressing her appreciation for the National Health Service (NHS) for their care, Faulkner, who is married to chef John Torode and has four children, stressed the significance of timely screenings in managing health.

Experts highlight that beyond lumps, there are other subtle signs of breast cancer to watch for. Dr. Jiri Kubes, a Radiation Oncologist, advises that changes in breast color, appearance of a rash, nipple inversion, or alterations in breast size could indicate underlying issues. He underscores the importance of being vigilant about these less obvious symptoms to facilitate early medical intervention.

Regular self-checks are crucial, as early diagnosis significantly impacts treatment outcomes. For those diagnosed with breast cancer, treatment options such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery, and hormone therapy are available. Proton radiotherapy, in particular, can offer benefits for specific cases, reducing the risk of radiation-induced heart disease.

In conclusion, maintaining breast health through regular monitoring and prompt medical consultation is vital for early detection and effective treatment of breast cancer. By staying proactive and informed, individuals can enhance their well-being and access appropriate care when needed.
