A man and his daughter have been sentenced to jail for throwing the daughter’s lover from a first-floor window, beating him, and stabbing him. John McGinley, 58, and Stacey McGinley, 39, initiated the abusive behavior towards Duncan Craig over an alleged debt owed by the victim to his partner. The violent incident occurred in a flat in the east end of Glasgow, where Mr. Craig was forcibly pushed out of a window, assaulted, strangled, and stabbed.

Another woman present in the flat managed to seek help for Mr. Craig, leading to his rescue. The authorities intervened, arresting the McGinleys, both with a history of prior violent acts. The pair confessed to the crimes in Glasgow’s High Court. John McGinley was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison, while Stacey McGinley received a six-and-a-half-year sentence.

During the sentencing, Lord Mulholland expressed shock at the brutal actions, stating that the defendants could have faced a murder charge. The assault took place on February 15, 2025, when tensions escalated over an alleged debt owed by Mr. Craig to Stacey McGinley totaling more than £600.

The violent outburst began in the early hours of the morning, with Stacey physically attacking Mr. Craig, leading to him being pushed out of the window by John McGinley. The victim was found injured and bleeding in a neighbor’s garden. Subsequently, he was subjected to multiple assaults, including being stripped of his clothes, punched, choked, and stabbed by the McGinleys.

Mr. Craig sustained severe injuries, including a fractured hip, dislocated shoulder, missing teeth, and various marks from the assault, requiring extensive medical treatment. John McGinley pleaded guilty to attempted murder, while Stacey admitted to assaulting Mr. Craig, causing severe injury, disfigurement, and endangering his life. The defendants also attempted to extort money from the victim.

Both defendants have been prohibited from contacting or approaching the victim for life. Defense lawyers for the McGinleys cited various circumstances during the incident but acknowledged their clients’ roles in the violent acts. The daughter expressed remorse for her actions, accepting full responsibility.
