At least eight individuals, including four children, sustained gunshot wounds in a mass shooting incident that occurred in Brooklyn. The New York Police Department responded to the scene in Coney Island late last night following reports of gunfire during Fourth of July festivities.
Law enforcement officers swiftly arrived at the 2900 block of West 31st Street around 10:37 pm on Saturday, as crowds had gathered to watch fireworks. Detectives quickly mobilized outside Seapark Apartments and were observed carrying young victims to safety, rushing them away from the scene, according to reports from the New York Post.
The exact number of assailants involved in the shooting and the motive behind the gunfire remain unclear. Local residents informed the Post that violence is unfortunately a common occurrence in the area.
Among the injured are a 37-year-old man, a 33-year-old man, a 25-year-old woman, a 21-year-old woman, and four boys aged 14, 12, seven, and six. The youngest victim suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach. All eight individuals were promptly transported to hospitals, with the 21-year-old woman, who sustained a chest gunshot wound, reported to be in critical condition.
The NYPD stated, “All victims were taken by EMS to nearby medical facilities, where seven individuals are in stable condition. The 21-year-old woman remains in critical condition.”
