An upscale restaurant owner expressed anger after two customers left without paying their £115 bill, describing the incident as “hugely disappointing.” The pair arrived at El Puerto at the Old Custom House in Penarth, south Wales, at approximately 8pm on June 29, parking their luxury car in the brasserie’s private car park. They dined on a variety of items, including an all-day set menu, Dover sole, calamari, and multiple soft drinks before leaving without settling their bill.
Despite efforts to resolve the matter, the customers have not rectified the situation, leaving the business facing additional financial strain in an already challenging economic climate for the hospitality industry. Tanny Martinez, the business owner, lamented the lack of respect shown for the hard work put into providing exceptional customer experiences. The incident not only resulted in a financial loss but also had a negative impact on the team’s morale and well-being.
According to Tanny’s marketing team, the customers made a hasty exit when the staff was not looking, evading attempts to address the situation promptly. The restaurant’s plea for direct resolution via social media was met with silence from the absconding customers, leading to the involvement of South Wales Police.
The police confirmed that a report of theft from The Custom House in Penarth was received on June 29 and encouraged anyone with relevant information to come forward. The restaurant’s management is now cooperating with the authorities to address the incident appropriately.
