A visitor in China defied the odds by surviving a five-hour ordeal stuck in a crevice halfway down a cliff. Ren Mou got wedged in the crevice after falling 180 feet down the Jiaozi Cliff in Shanxi Province while calling for help. She fell over a 330-foot-high ledge while watching the sunrise alone at the location. Wet conditions and poor visibility caused her to slip near the cliff edge, leading to her predicament.

Rescue efforts were initiated after a man at the base of the cliff heard her cries for help and alerted authorities. Drones, equipped with infrared imaging, were used to pinpoint her exact location. Rescue teams secured ropes to nearby trees and abseiled down to reach her since the cliff lacked suitable anchor points. Despite spending five hours in the crevice, Ren was successfully rescued.

Following the incident, Ren was disoriented, physically exhausted, and sustained multiple non-life-threatening injuries. She is currently hospitalized for treatment. The Captain of the Shanxi Blue Sky Rescue Team mentioned that this was the first time in his 16 years of service encountering such a situation.

Visitors have been advised to avoid lingering near cliff edges at night and on slippery terrain, emphasizing the importance of heeding safety warnings. This incident follows another tourist falling 130 feet off a cliff at Huaying Mountain in Guang’an, China.
