Louise Thompson, a former star of “Made In Chelsea,” achieved a significant milestone in advocating for maternity reform this week. Having faced a life-threatening childbirth experience in 2021, the 35-year-old has been tirelessly campaigning for improved care for expectant mothers.

Following the birth of her son, Leo, delivered via C-section, Louise grappled with post-traumatic stress disorder due to her near-death encounter during childbirth. Subsequently, she was diagnosed with Lupus, Asherman’s syndrome, experienced a second hemorrhage, and underwent stoma bag surgery.

In her quest for enhanced maternity services, Louise initiated a petition in January calling for the appointment of a maternity commissioner. Last week, Baroness Amos formally recommended the appointment in her report on maternity and neonatal services, marking a significant victory for Louise.

Presenting her petition with over 167,000 signatures and personal letters from affected families at 10 Downing Street on Wednesday, Louise expressed determination to continue pushing for a deadline for the commissioner’s appointment. She shared a video outside the Prime Minister’s residence, wearing a vibrant floral dress, and conveyed a sense of relief and emotion over the progress made.

Acknowledging the support received from families sharing their childbirth stories, Louise emphasized that she was a voice representing traumatized parents. Despite the achievements so far, she recognized that the mission continues, signaling a need for further efforts in improving maternity care.

Recounting the challenges she faced during childbirth, including a difficult labor and emergency caesarean, Louise disclosed the extensive trauma she endured. Complications post-childbirth led to severe blood loss, multiple diagnoses, and surgical interventions, culminating in her advocacy for better maternal healthcare.
