An American ally has provided fresh intelligence suggesting a new Iranian plot to assassinate President Donald Trump. Israel shared this information with the United States, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
Iran has long hinted at retaliating against the U.S. leader for the killing of Qassem Soleimani, a high-ranking general in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Tensions escalated to the brink of war following joint U.S. and Israeli strikes on key Iranian targets on February 28.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the White House referred to President Trump’s comments made on Wednesday. Trump, during a press briefing in Turkey, hinted at perceived threats to his life, stating, “They want to take out the U.S. leader—me. I’m on every list. I saw this morning, I’m on every single one of their lists. And so far, I guess I’ve been a little bit lucky, but that maybe doesn’t last very long.”
In the midst of the conflict, Iranians mourned the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, allegedly killed in U.S.-Israeli strikes. Mourners expressed desires for Trump’s demise, with some displaying a banner that read “We Will Kill Trump.”
On June 17, the U.S. and Iran signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at ending the conflict within 60 days. Efforts were underway to reach a lasting peace agreement, restore international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, and address disputes over Tehran’s nuclear program. However, Trump declared the ceasefire “over” at a NATO summit in Turkey, stating, “I don’t want to deal with them anymore. They’re scum.”
