In a recent interview, Mel B, aged 51, reminisced about her standout moments with the Spice Girls. She found it hard to choose between meeting Nelson Mandela, performing at Wembley alongside her bandmates, and hanging out with Prince William, 44, and his brother, Prince Harry, 41.
Mel playfully suggested that her Spice Girls mate, Victoria Beckham, 52, had a strategic hand in orchestrating her 2022 reunion with the royal family.
Recalling her top three memories with the iconic pop group, Mel shared with The Telegraph: “Meeting Nelson Mandela, performing at Wembley, or spending time with Harry and William.”
Discussing her time with the princes, Mel mentioned that one of them had a crush on her bandmate, Emma Bunton, back then.
She recounted: “The young princes had a fondness for Emma, and we even made them peanut butter and jam sandwiches at Kensington Palace.”
Talking about her recent encounter with Prince William, Mel hinted that Victoria had a hand in styling her dress to be slightly revealing for the occasion.
Victoria, who has found success in the fashion industry post-Spice Girls era, offered to design Mel’s dress when she received her MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for her charitable work.
Mel was presented with the medal by Prince William at Buckingham Palace, wearing a striking red gown with a revealing design by Victoria.
Mischievously, Mel shared: “The last time I saw Prince William was when he pinned my MBE to my chest, and Victoria’s design added a hint of allure right where the medal was placed. Victoria knew what she was doing with that dress.”
Speaking to the PA news agency post-MBE ceremony, Mel mentioned that William praised her for her charitable efforts.
She added: “He said, ‘I can’t believe I’m giving you one of these – I’m delighted’, and we shared a laugh.”
