Passengers aboard a Ryanair flight destined for the UK feared for their lives when they were suddenly thrown into the plane’s ceiling due to intense mid-air turbulence.
The incident occurred on Ryanair flight FR 9887, which was supposed to depart from Alicante at 4:35 pm on July 10 and arrive at Liverpool John Lennon Airport. However, the flight had to be diverted to Nantes, France, after severe turbulence caused injuries to several passengers, as confirmed by the airline.
A passenger recounted how the flight finally took off at 6:05 pm, only to experience violent turbulence that led to passengers and cabin crew being forcefully pushed into the ceiling, resulting in screams and cries throughout the cabin. The individual described the terrifying moments when the plane dropped sharply, causing chaos and panic among those on board.
The passenger further detailed the harrowing experience of passengers trying to hold onto each other to prevent hitting the roof, with belongings and drinks flying around the cabin. Emergency services had to attend to injured passengers upon landing in Nantes, including one individual who had to be stretchered off the plane due to hitting the ceiling.
After being held in the departure lounge, the passengers were eventually transferred to Liverpool John Lennon Airport on a replacement aircraft. The situation led to some passengers requiring medical attention, with reports of injuries sustained during the turbulent flight.
A spokesperson from Ryanair acknowledged the turbulence incident on flight FR9887 and stated that a replacement aircraft was arranged to transport passengers to Liverpool after the diversion to Nantes. The airline assured that the safety and well-being of passengers were a top priority throughout the ordeal.
