A father who tragically lost his life while attempting to rescue his two children at a beach in the UK has been identified. The incident occurred on Sunday, July 12, during a family outing at Seaton Carew beach in Hartlepool, turning into a nightmare when the children encountered difficulties in the sea. Three individuals, including the children’s father, Wayne Taylor, courageously intervened to assist.

Wayne, along with beach visitor Davey Short and another unidentified man, entered the water in a bid to save the children. Unfortunately, both Wayne and the unnamed man perished before they could reach the children. The RNLI retrieved the bodies of the men after responding to the scene at approximately 3:45 pm. Fortunately, the children were unharmed, partly due to the efforts of other beach attendees, and were subsequently taken to the hospital for evaluation.

According to Mr. Short, there were three children present at the beach with their parents, including a 15-year-old boy, an 11- to 12-year-old boy, and a younger girl. The younger boys encountered difficulties in the sea, prompting the rescue attempts. The tragic events transpired as the father and another man went in to rescue the children but were swept away by the water. Mr. Short, the third rescuer, managed to reach one of the boys.

The incident occurred amidst the Mirror’s “Save Lives for Sam” campaign, advocating for drowning prevention measures and urgent public awareness campaigns. Superintendent Glen Ward of Cleveland Police expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, emphasizing the risks of open water and advising against swimming in such conditions.

A GoFundMe page has been established to support Mr. Taylor’s family, raising over £31,000 to assist with funeral expenses and support the children.
