A father and a passerby lost their lives in a tragic seaside incident while attempting to rescue children, earning them praise as heroes. Wayne Taylor, a father of three, and Ian Pascoe, 62, who was out for a walk with his family on Seaton Carew beach, courageously entered the water to save Mr. Taylor’s children. Unfortunately, both men tragically perished before reaching the children, who were later rescued. The RNLI recovered their bodies after responding to the incident near Hartlepool, Co Durham. The families of Mr. Taylor and Mr. Pascoe have expressed support for the ‘Save Lives For Sam’ campaign, advocating for water safety education in schools and a nationwide awareness effort.

Ian’s son, Dan, fondly remembered his father as a principled man who always acted for the greater good. Mr. Pascoe, a father of two who recently returned from working in Saudi Arabia, selflessly jumped into the water to help the distressed children. Dan shared that his father was a man of action, not seeking recognition but driven by a genuine desire to help others.

The tragic incident drew emotional responses from the community, with calls for increased water safety measures and awareness campaigns. Hartlepool MP Jonathan Brash expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and highlighted the bravery of the two men who sacrificed their lives to save the children.
